Beyond Bailies: Finegan & Son

It's a miserable early August afternoon. The summer has begun to quickly fade away and the rain is pouring from the heavens. Luckily for us, we're sheltered from the grey clouds outside- staring out at passers-by rushing through the rain from the shelter and comfort of Finegan & Son- an unassuming yet, prime speciality coffee spot far from the bright lights and hype of Belfast.   From the outside, Finegan & Son looks like it could have been the inspiration for the shop fronts of Diagon Alley (that's one for you Harry Potter fans). Inside, the cafe is minimal, yet quaint- presented in an airy space, with wooden flooring, tables and chairs accompanied by giant windows that allow light to envelop...

Coffee - My Secret Endurance Drink

When we heard from Irish Elite Triathlete, Charles Maltha that ‘Bailies coffee helps improve his performance’ we had to find out more. Beyond its widespread use as a stimulant, caffeine has various hidden athletic benefits - so much so that many of the world’s leading distance runners including Mo Farah are claiming they use coffee as a vital part of their pre-race preparations. With Christmas and New Year’s a distant memory, it’s time to get focused and work towards this year’s race goals (Challenge Galway Full Ironman distance and the Middle Distance National Championships are high on the list)…so train harder, smarter and get lean for race day! As an elite triathlete I get up early morning’s and train every...

Jan's visit to Comepcafe, Colombia

Over the last few days (mid-October, 2015) I've been travelling in Colombia. ‘I've met a lot of people, seen a lot of coffee farms’, but the thing I was looking forward to most was meeting our friends at ComepCafe. For those who haven't heard about them so far, that's a cooperative based in Piendamo, Cauca from which we bought our first container of coffee this year. Because we like the quality of the coffee so much, I was really excited to meet them in person and see what exactly is happening there. On Monday I flew from Bogota to Popayan where I met Luz Stella Reyes, the representative of ComepCafe. First of all we visited local dry mill in Popayan...

Big Coffee Break events kick off in style

As we have previously mentioned, This year's Big Coffee Break is the first that NI Hospice has organised in association with local coffee company, Bailies Coffee, who have supplied more than 1,500 bags of coffee to more than 350 coffee hosts. We estimate this to mean around 45,000 cups of Bailies Coffee will be served around the country for these events! It all kicked off yesterday with Bailies staff attending some of the events to help out and join in the great atmosphere. These events are helping to raise funds for equipment in the new dementia-friendly Hospice set to open in Spring 2016. We toured around to take some pictures of everyone's superb efforts, travelling first to ACA Models run...
