SCA Brewing & Grinding Foundation

This one day course is designed for those who have no prior experience and aims to introduce core coffee brewing skills for a number of different brew methods.

Trainees will learn the concept of the three T's - time, temperature and turbulence; how do these affect your cup of coffee and how they help to achieve the optimum balance of strength and extraction.

The content covered will include:

  • Introduction to coffee beans – where does coffee come from and how do different origins, processing methods & roast profiles affect taste?
  • Brewing guidelines - an exploration of preferences of brewed coffee strength & extraction, and how to measure it and the importance of water to coffee ratios
  • Brewing techniques - how to grind and brew coffee for various brew methods including V60, Aeropress & French press

The class runs from 10am to 4pm in our custom built centre of excellence in Belfast and each participant gets lunch on the day. No previous barista experience is required for this course.
