colombia-finca-petrerito-washed-microlot
Colombia Finca Potrerito Washed Microlot

Grown high in the mountains of Cauca, Colombia, this exceptional coffee comes from the indigenous Nasa (Paéz) community of Pueblo Nuevo. Cultivated on small, shaded farms at high altitude, the slow maturation of the coffee cherries allows complex sugars and flavours to develop, resulting in a coffee with a rich body, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance. Produced by Leonel Campo and his family — members of Comecafe Cooperative — this lot showcases the quality from one of Colombia's most exciting coffee-growing regions.

This lot comes from Leonel Campo's Potrerito farm, the newest and most productive of his three small coffee farms. Together, Las Delicias, Guardualito, and Potrerito comprise just 0.8 hectares of coffee-producing land, reflecting the small-scale farming traditions of Pueblo Nuevo.

Located within an indigenous reservation in the municipality of Caldono, the region has only recently become recognised for coffee production as changing local microclimates have made cultivation increasingly viable. The combination of high elevations, native shade trees, and meticulous farming practices creates ideal conditions for producing high-quality specialty coffee.

Leonel's commitment to quality is evident throughout his farm management. Coffee grows beneath a canopy of plantain and Leucaena trees, which provide natural shade, promote biodiversity, and contribute to healthier soil and slower cherry development. The result is a clean, expressive cup with a full body, pleasant acidity, and the distinctive characteristics that have made Cauca coffees sought after by specialty coffee buyers around the world.

Leonel is also part of the Comepcafe cooperative, which supports local producers through agronomy assistance, good agricultural practices, and specialty coffee training. This investment is helping farming families across Pueblo Nuevo consistently improve quality and unlock the region's potential for producing outstanding washed Colombian coffees.

Processing

After harvest, Leonel processes the coffee using traditional washed methods common throughout Colombia. Freshly picked cherries are pulped on the farm before undergoing fermentation to remove the fruit mucilage. The coffee is then thoroughly washed using clean water, resulting in a bright, clean cup profile that highlights the character of the terroir.

Following washing, the coffee remains in its protective parchment layer and is dried slowly on concrete patios for two to three weeks. This careful drying process allows the beans to reach a stable moisture content of 11–12%, ensuring quality and consistency. Once drying is complete, the coffee is delivered to the Comepcafe cooperative, where the parchment is removed and the beans are prepared for export.
The careful washed process enhances clarity, sweetness, and acidity, allowing the unique characteristics of Leonel's high-altitude coffee to shine in every cup.

Region: Caldono, Cauca

Variety: Castillo, Supremo

Process: Washed

Altitude: 2000-2100 masl

Aroma: Pistachio

Tasting: Pomelo, White Sugar & Chamomile

Acidity: Medium/High

Body: Medium

Although we recommend purchasing coffees as wholebean for freshness, you can also purchase this Microlot to be ground for your preferred brew method.

BEST SERVED
