Our first Kenyan of this year's crop. Kianderi coffee factory rests on red volcanic soil in the Kirinyaga region, uniquely located on flat ground. Expect sweet tasting notes of Redcurrant, Cherry & Maple Syrup
Approximately 749 members from Kianderi, Kabumbu, Kieni and Kimandi Villages deliver their fresh cherries to the mill. The main varieties grown are SL28, K7, Ruiru 11 & Batian.
Ath the heart of this coffee's story is a desire to gain knowledge and pass it on.
The factory is encouraging farmers to concentrate on coffee cultivation; hosting seminars with factory employees who then pass their knowledge onto members to help further increase quality.
After harvest, the coffee is delivered to Kianderi factory and undergoes the wet process.
Water is pumped from the nearby River Kandakame to reservoir tanks for pulping and recirculation. After the coffee has been pulped it is stored overnight, washed, soaked and spread on drying tables. The parchment is frequently turned on the drying tables until the coffee reaches optimum moisture content.
