SCA FOUNDATION BARISTA SKILLS
This entry-level course is perfect for anyone who loves coffee, or who is thinking about becoming a barista. Developed by Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) as part of their Coffee Skills Program and delivered by our highly qualified Authorised SCA Trainers (ASTs), this training course focuses on the key skills needed to make a great espresso and cappuccino, while also exploring where coffee comes from, what makes a good barista and how the equipment works and is kept clean.
This course can be completed with or without certification.
Those taking the course with SCA certification will undergo an online written test and a short practical skills test and will receive a certificate from SCA upon successful completion of their evaluation, while also earning 5 points towards the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.
The content covered will include:
- Introduction to coffee beans - where it comes from, how it is processed, and the different varieties used.
- Espresso preparation
- Grinder & machine set up.
- Steam, texturize & pour milk.
- Tips on barista best practice
- Cleaning procedures
Skill Level – Entry Level, no previous coffee experience required.
Course Length: 6 hrs
Timing: 10:00 AM – 16:00 PM
Exam:
Practical exam: Completed on the day of the course, this is a causal assessment of how well you are using the skills taught during the course.
Theory exam: A short online multiple-choice exam to be completed at home in your own time. 20 questions. 22 minutes. 60% pass mark
