Single Origin Coffee FAQs
What makes coffee, specialty coffee?
Specialty coffee is coffee that scores over 80 out of 100 on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale, as evaluated by certified Q Graders. It is grown in ideal climates and carefully harvested and processed to highlight unique and high-quality flavour characteristics. Specialty coffee often prioritises sustainable and regenerative farming practices, focusing on the long-term health of the land and the future of coffee production.
How is our specialty coffee different from regular coffee?
Our specialty coffee is different from regular coffee because we work almost entirely through direct trade, which means we know exactly where our coffee comes from and personally visit the farms. This allows us to understand and support the farming conditions and practices behind each coffee. By building long-term relationships with producers, we ensure more consistent quality over time and pay fair, Bailies-specific prices that reflect the true value of the coffee, rather than relying on generic fair-trade models.
What does single origin coffee mean?
Single origin coffee comes from one specific region, farm, or cooperative, rather than being blended from multiple sources. This allows the unique flavours and characteristics of that region to shine through, giving you a cup that reflects the soil, climate, and care of the farmers who produced it.
What type of flavour profiles can I expect from single origin coffees?
Single origin coffees come from a specific region, farm, or cooperative, and each lot reflects the unique characteristics of its origin. You can expect a wide range of flavours, from bright, fruity and floral notes to rich, chocolatey, nutty, or spicy tones. Every single origin coffee is a true expression of its growing region, offering clarity, sweetness, and distinctive character in every cup.
