Introducing the foundational sensory skills module from the SCA. This course will help develop participants’ skills as a professional barista and master the basics of becoming a sensory expert.
Over the course of this one-day session you will learn about the physiology, neurology, and psychology of how we perceive taste, aroma, and mouthfeel. With a series of practical exercises designed to help reinforce the theory, participants will learn how our senses interact with each other to create a multi sensorial perception.
Participants will also learn how to use the SCA Coffee Flavour Wheel and how it was developed, along with the reasoning and methodology of how to conduct coffee cuppings.
To gain certification learners must complete skills observation report and score at least 60% in their written assessment.
Successful completion of this certification will earn learners 5 points towards the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.
