Espresso Coffee Beans FAQs

What makes coffee, specialty coffee?

Specialty coffee is coffee that scores over 80 out of 100 on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale, as evaluated by certified Q Graders. It is grown in ideal climates and carefully harvested and processed to highlight unique and high-quality flavour characteristics. Specialty coffee often prioritises sustainable and regenerative farming practices, focusing on the long-term health of the land and the future of coffee production.

How is our specialty coffee different from regular coffee?

Our specialty coffee is different from regular coffee because we work almost entirely through direct trade, which means we know exactly where our coffee comes from and personally visit the farms. This allows us to understand and support the farming conditions and practices behind each coffee. By building long-term relationships with producers, we ensure more consistent quality over time and pay fair, Bailies-specific prices that reflect the true value of the coffee, rather than relying on generic fair-trade models.

What makes espresso coffee different from filter coffee?

Typically, our Espresso Blends are roasted a little darker and profiled for espresso-based coffee’s. Our microlots are roasted lighter to allow all the characteristics to shine when brewed as a filter.

What does single origin and blend mean for espresso beans?

Single Origin coffees originate from one country, region or farm and typically highlight the characteristics of the region. Espresso Blends are coffees made up of multiple origins and roasted to give specific taste profiles suited to espresso-based drinks.

Can I use espresso beans for other brewing methods?

While we profile our signature blends for espresso, ultimately it is the brewers taste preference on how they enjoy the coffee.
